Letter to Horace R. Hotchkiss, 1841, August 25.

Facsimile of a letter sent to Horace R. Hotchkiss from Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois. Smith writes of verbal agreements with Hotchkiss regarding land in the "Atlantic states" related to Hyrum Smith and Dr. Isaac Galland. Smith asserts "I know you are no stranger to the land of the city plat we bought of you, it being a deathly sickly hole." Smith continues that they have been "keeping up appearances" to encourage immigrants, but expresses his displeasure at Hotchkiss' dealings.
